The Dermoids

Pocked repulsion

Pus and crust and the rare rusty hair

Rising from a waxy mare

No eyes to see you

So she asks you to judge

Is she so foul?

A hookup of great lengths:

How barnacles breed-

Size concealed in

Humbled relativity

2023 - Porcelain, polymer clay, wax, hair

This piece belongs to the Anomalies collection as noted by the orange text. In the initial run of 4000 cards, there were 200 of this card made.

The poem on this card was written by Terri Lambrix.
There were 5 signed versions of this card in random packs as well.

Sculpture fact: This was the first sculpture that I had attached the doll legs to. I had been working with a more abstracted and grotesque form when a package arrived in the mail with ebay stickers on it. I had recently made an ebay purchase and thought it was mine so I opened it. Inside I found a trove of porcelain doll parts (Terri had ordered them on a whim thinking she’d use them in a project). I took two legs out and stuck them on the form I was working on to see what would happen and the whole series just began right there.

This page is primarily accessible through the QR code on the card you collected. My intention for each of these pages is to journal or chronicle the events and details around this particular sculpture. In a sense, the card functions as a key to unlocking the life or narrative around this piece. If the piece is sold or collected, shown in a new venue, damaged or destroyed, or if I begin to develop other narratives around this work, I would detail those things here. When these updates occur, I will post about them in my newsletter or you can check back occasionally for updates and information.
